Akil is a big tree grows in Himalayas, and in Norther Hills. Its stem parts are cut into small pieces and available as raw material. Inner parts of Akil Kattai is usually brown in colour and outer parts are white in colour. Its stems are cut into pieces, ground into very fine powder and made available online. 

It is called as Eagle Wood, Sweet Cented Wood, Aloe Wood in English. Its name is Agaru in all other Indian Languages except Tamil. Its other names in Tamil are Poozhil, Kagathundam. Its Botanical Name is Aquilaria Agallochi. 

Currently it is being used by people as a Pooja Essential or Homa Samagiri.
