Manathakkali is a small plant grows in wet lands and in crop fields. Its leaves can be used as greens in daily food. These leaves along with stems are collected, dried well, and ground into very fine powder. It is then filtered to make it free from unground particles. It is being used by our people since ancient days. 

It is also called as Milagu Thakkali in Tamil, Wonder Berry or Black Nightshade in English, Makoi in Hindi, Kasaka or Kamanchi in Telugu, Mulaku Thakkali in Malayalam, Kanikegida in Kannada. Its Botanical Name is Solanum Nigrum
